After becoming the owner of the company, you will have to employ for full working time citizens of the Republic of Lithuania, or foreign citizens that permanently reside in Lithuania. The company during the last six months prior submitting an application form for TRP has to be already running. After you submit your application documents either through VFS Global or directly at the Lithuanian Migration Department, based on your registered business, the authorities will review your case and issue a decision regarding your temporary residence permit. If approved, you will receive a residence permit valid for two years. The standard processing time for this procedure is usually between one to two months. The Migration Department of Lithuania will issue you a Temporary Residence Permit (called TRP or TRC) for two years validation on the grounds of business. At the termination of that period (at least, two months before the end of the current existing temporary residence permit) You are required to refer to the Migration Department of Lithuania for the Residence Permit renewal / extension.

Bring Your Family to Schengen Zone
If the company’s shareholders and employees are a married couple (husband and wife), their under-age children are also eligible to receive a Temporary Residence Permit (TRP) in Lithuania automatically, as part of the family reunification process. This allows the entire immediate family to live together in Lithuania from the start.
In cases where only one parent is a shareholder of the company, the situation is slightly different. That parent will first need to reside in Lithuania and maintain legal grounds for living in the country. After completing a two-year residence period, he or she acquires the right to apply for family reunification. At that point, the spouse and children can also be brought to Lithuania legally and obtain their residence permits.
Permanent Residence Permit to Live in Lithuania
To qualify for a Permanent Residence Permit in Lithuania, you must first reside in the country for at least five consecutive years under a valid Temporary Residence Permit. During this period, you are expected to:
- Legally live in Lithuania as a registered resident.
- Pay taxes and contribute to the Lithuanian social and economic system.
- Successfully pass the official examinations on the Lithuanian language and on the fundamentals of the State Constitution.
Once these requirements are fulfilled, you may apply for a Permanent Residence Permit, which is normally granted for a five-year period. After holding a permanent residence for five years (a total of ten years of continuous residence in Lithuania), you may become eligible to apply for citizenship of the Republic of Lithuania, provided that you continue to meet all legal and integration requirements.
